Enable sata AHCI / RAID (ICH8/ICH8R/ICH9/ICH9R/ICH10)

Well , I’ve had some experience in the past as for moving windows installations to different hardware / storage controllers .. read more on the subject in You receive a Stop 0x0000007B error after you move the Windows XP system disk to another computer , if you got here for this just remember that to actually move an hard drive with a windows 2000+ operating system to another computer / motherboard / controller , you first HAVE to make sure you change back your IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to their original driver in windows – Standard Dual Chennel PCI IDE Controller.

But this post is about my brand new computer 🙂 it was installed too quickly and I’ve done it with Legacy IDE mode as far as my south bridge SATA controller, which i wanted to change so it will be set up as AHCI mode in the BIOS.

I’ve tracked down a great method that was mentioned on the Hexus.net forums, here’s the link.
Worked great.

The basics follow the KB mentioned above for the “old” issues.
