Connecting to Azure with PowerShell

If you are like me and you just love both PowerShell and Azure then you must read this post.

To begin with, lets start by downloading the PowerShell module for Azure. You can find it here.

Now that the module is installed in the default path, you can fire it up from the start menu:

Azure PowerShell Start Menu

Azure PowerShell Start Menu

Now we need to connect to our own subscription. To do so, use the following command in the PowerShell – Get-AzurePublishSettingsFile. This will open your browser to your portal. You will have to login and save the publishing file on your local drive. Make sure this file is kept in a safe place, as this file contains the certificate which is used to automatically connect to your subscription.

Ok, now we can use the downloaded file to connect to our subscription – enter the following command ‘Import-AzurePublishSettingsFile -PublishSettingsFile <your_downloaded_file>’. And that’s it.

Now you can use any of the 505!! available commands.
